Choc v1, Choc v2 and Mini Choc

Choc is Kailh's family of low-profile switches: Choc v1, Choc v2 and the smaller Mini Choc. A board takes the one it was drilled for, so check which before you buy switches.

The holes each switch needs in the PCB, from Kailh's drawings, to scale and seen from the top. The dashed square is the 15 × 15 mm switch, the colored dots its two pins, in the same place on both. Kailh's v2 drawing also has a small 2 × 1.5 mm slot.

A v2 switch won't go in a board drilled only for v1, because its center post needs the 5 mm hole. A v1 switch won't go in a v2 board either: its side posts have no holes. Some boards are drilled for both, and each design page lists every footprint its board takes.

The stem decides the keycaps. Most Choc-spaced caps are made for v1 and don't fit v2. Key spacing names some that do.

The Mini Choc fits only Mini Choc boards. Kailh says it doesn't take MX caps, and Deskthority's switch wiki lists its keycap mount as Kailh Choc, the same as Choc v1's.
